Can I join the FreeSO beta?
Yes! The links to register and download the client are listed at the top of the page.
I registered on January 6th. Can I log in with that username?
No. All registrations from January 6th were deleted. You have to register again.
Do I install the global or the legacy version? Do I need both?
Install the global version. Choose install everything, and you can elect to skip the The Sims Online installation when prompted if you already have The Sims Online installed. You can remove the legacy version if you wish, as it's no longer required.
Can I create more than one account?
You are only allowed one account per player. There are no exceptions to this rule.
But what if my mom/dad/sister/brother/friend/girlfriend/boyfriend/spouse/cat wants to play?
Until we are closer to full release, we are limiting accounts by IP address. Once better tools are implemented to detect fraud, bug exploitation, and botting, we will be able to allow more than one account per IP address.
Can I play multiple sims at once, even if they're on the same account?
You are only allowed one active login per account. There are no exceptions this rule.
I've forgotten my password. Can you assist me with a reset?
We do not provide manual password reset assistance. You may, however, use our automated tool here. You must have access to the registered e-mail address. This will not work if you have been banned from the server.
When the game is fully released, do I get to keep my sim?
No. The server will be wiped when we are ready to move into a production environment. There is currently no estimated date for the wipe, but we will be certain to inform you here and on the Discord's #announcements channel as soon as a decision is made.
Will FreeSO be free-to-play?
Yes, FreeSO will always be 100% free-to-play.
I'm interested in donating to the project, are you accepting donations?
Thank you, but we are not currently accepting donations.

Legality, Hosting, and Distribution
Is FreeSO legal?
Yes. Free Simulator Online (FreeSO) is a reimplementation of the game engine of Electronic Arts' The Sims Online (TSO), using C# and Monogame. It consists of 100% original code reverse-engineered to replicate the gameplay of TSO. FreeSO is merely a game engine, thus any content that resembles the graphics or sound effects of TSO must be provided by the legally-obtained software of the user. We neither distribute, nor alter any intellectual property belonging to Electronic Arts, Inc. We use our own original artwork to promote FreeSO, and we maintain the project as non-commercial. For legal or auditing inquiries, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. Only verifiable e-mails from the Electronic Arts General Counsel's Office and/or IP Enforcement Group will be addressed.
The FreeSO project and its affiliated websites, specifically freeso.org and freeso.net, are not in any way affiliated with Electronic Arts Inc. or "The Sims" franchise.
Electronic Arts, Inc. owns all copyrights, trademarks and other intellectual property associated with "The Sims" franchise, including copyrights in both the client and server software associated with The Sims Online game (“EA IP”).
Can I play FreeSO even though I don't own The Sims Online?
Yes. The Sims Online is available through this link at Electronic Arts' website. We neither distribute, nor condone the distribution of The Sims Online or any other intellectual property belonging to Electronic Arts, Inc. Unauthorised distribution of the The Sims Online constitutes copyright infringement of which you retain sole responsibility. Should this download link become unavailable, it will be up to you to find a way to legally obtain a copy of The Sims Online in order to play FreeSO.
Who hosts the global server?
The global server is hosted by FreeSO.net at their own expense. This is currently the only server offically sanctioned and authorised by the freeso.org and freeso.net team of developers and administrators.
Can I host my own private server?
